Message Summary

In Mark 14:26-72, Jesus and his disciples celebrate the Passover meal together. Jesus tells them that one of them will betray him, and Judas, one of the twelve disciples, agrees to betray Jesus to the religious leaders for thirty pieces of silver.

Jesus then goes to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, and he asks Peter, James, and John to stay with him. Jesus prays to God, asking if it is possible for him to avoid the suffering that is to come, but ultimately submits to God’s will.

Judas arrives with a group of soldiers, and he kisses Jesus as a signal to the soldiers to arrest him. One of Jesus’ followers cuts off the ear of a high priest’s servant, but Jesus tells him to stop and allows himself to be taken into custody.

Jesus is brought before the Jewish council, where he is accused of blasphemy. He tells them that he is the Son of God, and they condemn him to death. Peter denies knowing Jesus three times before the rooster crows, just as Jesus had predicted.

The chapter ends with Jesus being taken to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, to be tried and sentenced to death.
