Summary

In our first study last week we saw that Peter was trying to prepare the brethren of coming persecution and tribulation that Nero was instigating against Christians. Jesus said there would be tribulation during the end times before his return. So the warnings and encouragement that Peter gave nearly 2000 years ago is valid for us today.

Matthew 24:21 KJV – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Matthew 24:22 KJV – And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Peter says his purpose of writing is to encourage them.

1 Peter 5:12 NLT – I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.

In this bible study session we will see Peter not only encourages Christians  by comparing their coming suffering to the sufferings Jesus went through but also incorporates themes of hope, grace and glory.
