Summary:

This sermon examines the biblical teaching that the Church is called to become the Bride of Christ and emphasizes the urgent need to develop the spiritual qualities required to enter the marriage supper of the Lamb. Scripture consistently presents believers as espoused to Christ now, in preparation for a future, literal wedding at His return. The apostle Paul describes the Church as a “pure virgin” promised to one Husband, Christ, highlighting faithfulness, spiritual purity, and exclusive devotion to Him.

Using passages from Revelation, the sermon explains that the Bride is identified as those who have been redeemed by Christ’s blood, follow the Lamb wherever He goes, speak no deceit, and are found without spiritual blemish. Though all have sinned, believers are cleansed and made acceptable through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who purchased the Church with His own blood. This cleansing makes preparation possible, but it does not remove personal responsibility. The Bride must actively “make herself ready.”

Paul’s teaching in Ephesians 5 shows that Christ sanctifies and cleanses the Church through His Word so that He may present her glorious, holy, and without spot. Building on this foundation, the sermon turns to Proverbs 31 as a detailed spiritual portrait of the kind of Bride Christ is preparing. The virtuous woman is presented not merely as an ideal wife, but as a model of the Church’s character—marked by virtue, diligence, faithfulness, strength, wisdom, generosity, and reverent fear of the Lord.

Each attribute of the Proverbs 31 woman is connected to New Testament exhortations: growing in virtue and love (2 Peter 1), diligence in calling and election, fruitful good works prepared by God, spiritual preparedness like the wise virgins, compassion toward the needy, integrity in conduct and speech, and confidence rooted in righteousness rather than outward appearance. These traits reflect the “righteous acts of the saints,” described in Revelation as the fine linen with which the Bride is clothed.

The sermon concludes by stressing that external beauty, charm, or status do not qualify one for the Kingdom. What Christ seeks is a Bride who fears the Lord, walks in obedience, bears spiritual fruit, and perseveres faithfully to the end. Those who develop these qualities now will be praised, rewarded, and invited to inherit the Kingdom at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
